Treatments For Vaginal Itching During Pregnancy

Vaginal itching is common condition caused by the changes of the vagina during pregnancy.

Causes of vaginal itching

Stretchmark because the skin stretches too much (in the last few months of pregnancy)

This condition causes itching (rash in some areas) 20% of pregnant women. Pregnant women have vaginal itching because of this reason usually itch at the groin, vulva areas and other areas such as abdomen, breasts, legs, arms, thighs, buttock…

Increasing of basic transformation and blood vessels in the skin during pregnancy

It increases the secretion of sweat, makes the skin more sensitive to outside irritation (hot weather, rub with rough clothes, skin-disease…) and causes itching at groin and vulva areas.

Sweat a lot

It causes heat rash, especially at groin and vulva skin areas.

Changes of pH at vulva and vaginal areas

These areas become too alkaline during pregnancy and are easily to be infected.

Have folliculitis during pregnancy (not because of microbe)

It appears from the 4th to 9th months  and causes itching at hairy areas of genital organ.

Have hemorrhoids

It causes itching at anus area.

Treatment

The first advice for you is do not scratch or rub strongly because vagina is a sensitive area, it is easy to be grazed and infected. You can reduce uncomfortable symptoms as following:

Clean the vaginal area well

Do not bath with too hot water or use soap having strong cleanser when cleaning your genital organ. And do not clean your vagina too deep.

You should clean the vagina with water from green tea or betel leaves after cleaning and boiling. These kinds of leaf can prevent bacteria. Green tea is a good antiseptic and can deodorize the smell of leucorrhoea.

Choose clothes

You should wear loose cotton clothes (include underwear). Do not wear tight clothes.

Diet

You should eat more olive oil and food rich in vitamin A (fish-liver oil, liver, vegetable, egg...), vitamin D (sea fish, fish-liver oil, dairy products…), Linoleic acid (linseed oil, primrose oil, sardine…). Drink plenty of water (1.5-2 lit/day). Reduce sugar and sweet food.

Skin care cream

Use moisturizer for body or some areas to smooth, soften your dry skin, such as castor oil (no Hexane), olive oil, aloe vera gel… Applying cream or lotion containing zinc oxide to itching skin can ease the skin and reduce itching.

Do not wear wet clothes

Do not go outside in hot weather and especially do not let your body sweat a lot. Absolutely not wear wet clothes, especially underwear.

Note

If after doing all these advices but your vagina still itches with serious symptoms, go to see the doctor to find out the reason and treat in time.
